Zip disks were issued with storage capacities of 100MB and 250MB and a later issue of a 750MB was rolled out but they are still well below even the most basic storage capacities of modern flash based products.

Given their age many of these devices are likely to degrade or fail at some stage. The Sony Corporation took the decision to cease production of the Floppy Disk from 2011 meaning that replacements will be hard to come by within the next year.

The most common causes of failure of Floppy, Zip and Jaz disks are that they either become physically damaged, they degrade or they suffer from magnetic interference.
