Move to make Data Loss a reporting requirement to the ICO

July 21, 2010 Filed under Articles

VenSys Limited have learnt that legal experts are now lobbying for all forms of data loss to be notified to the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).

This will allow (they argue) Data Loss to be accurately tracked and categorized by the ICO in order for them to develop strategies ensuring that systems can be implemented to reduce incidence(s) of data loss. Presently Companies and individuals are not required to make any form of formal report over data loss situations regardless of the type and quantities of data lost. This comes after it was revealed by the ICO that a third of all data loss occured within the NHS.

Changes would make it (data loss) an reportable and legally enforceable event similar to a solicitor or accountant having to report an incidence of money laundering to the relevant authorities. Fines would be levied for non compliance. This will force many businesses to re-evaluate their data storage and backup procedures as fines would be hefty for many small businesses.

VenSys Limited offer a two stage solution to the problem, not only are we specialists and recovering lost data but we also have a robust and secure online Data Backup solution for you to ensure that you will never lose your files and other critical data. An adequate backup plan will ensure you wouldn’t ever need to worry about reporting incidences of data loss should it ever become a legal requirement to do so. VenSys are also registered with the ICO and are fully compliant with present Data Protection laws.
