Samsung Electronics have today announced the release of their F4EG Hard Disk billed as the worlds first high density and environmentally friendly disk for the desktop range. The “Eco Green” F4 has 2TB of data storage potential and contains just three platters – 667GB for each of its three disks. For the layman not familiar with data storage potential this disk is capable of storing up to 880 hours of DVD videos or half a million MP3 files. The internal F4EG utilizes Samsung’s high-density design technology to provide better performance, low power and improved reliability to its EcoGreen hard drives.

Samsung are the first hard disk manufacturer to be able to cram 2TB onto just three platters thus stealing a march on their rivals WD (Western Digital) and Seagate who currently use four platters in their 2TB ranges. This one less platter allows the disk to use nearly one quarter less power when in operation thus saving on electric consumption. The new disk release is also produced using eco-friendly materials and also meets all the environmental regulations including RoHS (Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) which is applied throughout the world (including the EU).

The Drive is expected to be shipped from September and available in the US and the EU at will retail at just $120 (£95).

Samsung have developed a reputation of late for issuing solid performing drives - but do remember that no one single hard disk should be relied upon to never fail. VenSys Limited are experts in the rebuilds and data recovery from not just Samsung hard drives but all other known brands as well.
